Excelsior Chapter, Answering the Call of Those in Need…

Working with McCarthy School in Syracuse, NY we were able to donate much needed items to help the students at the school and had some fun activities for them too. The Syracuse City School District represents 34 schools and 4 alternative education programs K-12th grade, serving 21,000+ students of whom 77% qualify for free or reduced-price lunch, 18% are served by the Office of Special Education and 78% are students of color. McCarthy being one of the 4 alternative education schools.
Excelsior Chapter bought multiple cases of baby wipes (so the kids can clean themselves at school) deodorant, underwear, socks, multicolored t-shirts, and towels. We were also able to help them celebrate Pride Month with an activity project. Using white t-shirts, tie dye kits, sunglasses, and bubble sticks for children with special needs, a great time was had by all! It’s so fun helping the students and seeing them smile; they have such rough homes it’s nice to see them in a happy place. It was truly a special gift and treat for the kids.

The pictures are some of the kids, with their faces bubbled out, to show you how happy we made them. Pictured along with JoAnn Esposito, on the left, is Nikki Harrell a social a worker at the school.
